demolition/renovation

So, there's a section of wall about three feet wide in the quasi-hall in my 2-bedroom condo, running from the door to the spare room to the corner that meets my bedroom door. The other side of the wall is my bedroom closet. There are no electrical outlets in this wall, and no earthly reason why there'd be plumbing or heating pipes. The building was built in about 1945-50, for what it's worth. You might have guessed where this is going: I'm contemplating removing the drywall, and if it doesn't look too gross, putting shelves between the studs. Can anything with more knowledge of wall innnards think of a good reason not to give it a try?
